Ravelwear was officially launched October 21st, 2006. The Ravelwear head office is located in Toronto, Canada. The company was founded by five close friends with similar ideas about having fun, being creative and running a business in the twenty-first century.
Our goal is to make quality clothes that are cool, comfortable and make people feel good about who they are and how they shop. We are committed to fair trade, social responsibility and social reinvestment, elements that put an extra bounce in your step as you sport a Ravelwear garment and spread our message of ‘hmmm…’ around the world.
Ravelwear is dedicated to promoting and purchasing only fairly traded products, created in sweatshop free conditions. We are committed to doing our utmost to choose suppliers in need of fair trade and fair wages and also lending extra support to them and/or other worthwhile causes. For more detailed information and news regarding Ravelwear products and our community involvement, see the news section.
Our shirts are designed by the Ravelwear team. They are made to be fun, funny, thoughtful or just dead cool. The extra goodness that comes with wearing Ravelwear shirts is in the knowledge that they were made well, in every sense of the word, by one of the following suppliers:
Justshirts
Ravelwear is currently supplied, in part, with shirts made by the Cooperativa de Madres Solteras based in El Salvador and their Canadian counterpart, Justshirts. The Cooperative was formed by a group of single mothers in the wake of the massive unemployment that ensued in El Salvador following the removal of worldwide tariffs on clothing and the resulting relocation of American clothing retailers, which are now centralizing production in China. In El Salvador, the removal of these tariffs has resulted in the closure of maquiladoras and the loss of work for thousands of workers; the majority of these workers are mothers and single parents. The women of the Cooperative have years of experience working in the garment industry and have the skills to produce quality clothing at reasonable prices. It is our intent to work with this cooperative as much as possible in the hope that someday soon they will have the means to meet all of our production demands and their own goals for improved conditions and lifestyle. Ravelwear is also supporting the activities of the Cooperative by redirecting a portion of our revenue from each shirt sold back to the women of the Cooperative. For more detailed information see the news section.
American Apparel
Ravelwear also uses other fine and fairly traded clothing, such as American Apparel to meet our demands. American Apparel clothes are of the highest quality and made in sweatshop free conditions in downtown Los Angeles.
